Good things take time

I have become the Pied Piper of ideas. I’ll spawn one idea and that idea spawns five more. I often find myself distracted by shiny objects. Before I know it, my goal of creating new Facebook ad is left in the rear view and I’m off on a side road making a new book cover for a book I haven’t even finished writing.

When you’re starting a new venture, there’s a lot of moving parts. They’re all equally important, but it’s tempting to pick one part and just rush ahead with it.

I recently sat down with a writing guru and she compared this feeling to sweeping a gym. Have you ever used one of those big brooms to sweep a big room? When I was a kid, it was my dad’s workshop. If I was in a hurry, I could race across the room in one straight line, but all I would accomplish is cleaning one strip of the floor. Meanwhile, the rest of the floor is still dirty. If you go little by little, sweep in a horizontal line, it takes longer, but when you’re done, you’ll have swept the entire space. Taking on a big project takes time. There’s no rushing the process. You can try to rush ahead with one part, but the other parts are left behind. Good things take time. Don’t rush the process, trust in it.
